Classroom Responsibility
Promoting internal motivation and raising individual and social responsibility - Marvin Marshall, EdD
Students Taking Responsibility for Their Behavior

Choose the positive.  You have choice, you are master of your attitude, choose positive, the constructive. Optimism is a faith that leads to success. - Bruce Lee

Our classroom is a busy and bustling place.  It is a place where we can feel safe to learn and grow to our potential.
Having positive qualities of character help us be the best we can be.

My classroom discipline follows along with the philosophy of "Raise the Responsibility: Discipline without Stress, Punishment, or Rewards by Marvin Marshall, EdD"

"There are four classical virtues -as old as Aristotle-: prudence, temperance, justice, and fortitude.  Prudence is practical wisdom- recognizing and making the right choices. Temperance involves much more than moderation in all things.  It is the control of human passions and emotions, especially anger and frustration.  Fortitude is courage in pursuit of the right path, despite the risks.  It is the strength of mind and courage to persevere in the face of adversity.  Justice, in the classical sense, includes fairness, honesty, and keeping promises."
-Discipline without Stress, Punishment, or Rewards by Marvin Marshall, Ed.D
We also follow our school Character Counts education program.  Character Counts education refers to these attributes as: Caring, Citizenship, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility, and Trustworthiness.

My classroom rules and responsibilities are centered around 7 basic guidelines:
Listen and follow directions the first time they are given.
Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
Be respectful of other's feelings and right to learn.
Be kind to others.
When you are done cleaning up - help another
Know what you need to accomplish today, and try your best.
Be gentle with the living things and supplies in the classroom.

In addition to these things, I ask the students to T.H.I.N.K. before they speak.
T is it true?
H is it helpful?
I is it inspiring?
N is it necessary?
K  is it kind?

Our class also follows PBIS - Our Helmers Huskies H.O.W.L.
H- Have Respect
O - Own Your Actions
W - Work To Succeed
L - Lead With Kindness
